Why does everyone like this book?

Updated: Oct 2, 2019

I'm currently reading the best-seller, The Nest by Cynthia D'aprix Sweeney. So far this book is a bunch of spoiled adults complaining because they have poor money management skills.

The four main characters are siblings and their family relationship dynamic is incredibly dysfunctional, as well as the individual characters themselves. What this translates to "well" is a book that feels completely dysfunctional itself.

The story is told from the point of views of four main-ish characters along with a couple other random side characters. I don't like stories told from so many different viewpoints because it feels very disconnected.

The story isn't really going anywhere but I'm not entertained enough by the characters to care anyway what will happen next. I think there are too many characters and there's way too much exposition. By the time we get through the character introductions it's like we're somehow at the conclusion.

One positive aspect of the book is that the characters are very realistic. They have more flaws than endearing qualities which I think makes them more human.

I'm mostly still reading the story because I don't absolutely hate it and because I don't like quitting books halfway through. Everyone else seems to like it though and it even has a movie deal with Amazon, so what do I know?
