The person behind the photo

Updated: Aug 30, 2019

Human faces are awesome. The endless diversity between facial features amazes me and I love observing the variety of combinations God has created. Sometimes scrolling through portraits of interesting looking people on Pinterest helps me imagine a whole life for the person behind the photo.

Here are some photos and super random description prompts that I made up to help you when you're stuck in a character-creating rut.

This is Matt. He's 26 and working as a freelance writer. He is planning to propose to his girlfriend of three years next week, right after she graduates from nursing school. He's worn glasses since he was five and thinks that messenger bags are cool. Matt would never, ever buy a PC over a Mac. He really wants to visit Iceland one day. He would love to move to Oregon.

This is Denise. She loves long talks with interesting people and listening to podcasts while she drives. She will never say no to a chai latte and watches way too many natural hair videos when she's bored. She's never had a serious boyfriend. One day she thinks it would be fun to be a college professor. Mustard yellow is her favorite color to wear. She's getting her masters in psychology. Her friends would describe her as warm and understanding.

This is Nick. He loves living in a city and can't imagine himself ever moving. He does not feel fulfilled by his office job. He lived in England for a year during college. He's always down for a drink after work and loves trying new bars with his friends. He can't decide if he should grow out his beard or not. He's hopelessly in love with one of his female friends but can't tell her because he knows that she doesn't feel the same way. He really loves chicken wings.

This is Brian. He is friendly, loud, and sincere. He will immediately make you feel at home in his presence. He never really knows if his hair is going to behave or not. He's a great confidence booster and will hype you up in public. He spends too much time on his phone, but also wants to work in social media. He's allergic to cats and wants an exotic pet. He has been described as "extra." He's graduating in a few months and has no earthly idea what he's doing next.

This is Olivia. She's excited to start dental school next month. She eats Thai food three times a week. She only wears her hair down on Saturdays. She's besties with a photographer so she always has high-quality photos on her Instagram. She used to have her cartilage pierced. She will make you feel bad for not trying hard enough in school. She doesn't want to date anyone until she's opened her own practice. Her guilty pleasure is The Bachelor.

I hope you enjoyed these random descriptions I made up pretty much on the spot. Whether real or fake, I get a kick out of imagining the lives of other people.
