Summer novels to sweep you away

Updated: Oct 2, 2019

Summer isn't over yet!! Whether tanning at the beach, lying by the pool, or road tripping somewhere great, there's plenty of opportunities to enjoy one last book before fall!

Here are my recommendations of books to make your summer even more sweet ;)

1. Modern Lovers by Emma Straub

A humorous and witty account of ex-college bandmates and current best friends grown up and living in gentrified Brooklyn. They begin to realize how quickly life and your idealistic glory days pass by.

2. Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

Set between NYC and Singapore and filled with over-the-top lifestyles and personalities, this best-seller is Kwan's endeavor to "introduce contemporary Asia to a North American audience." Read it before the much-anticipated movie premieres in August!

3. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

This is a classic and if you haven't read it yet, then what are you doing?? It's got true love, family loyalty, a message of self-confidence, and the fantastically brooding and irresistible Mr. Darcy.

4. This is Me by Chrissy Metz

Feeling insecure about your summer bod? No one is as amazing as of an advocate for self-confidence and body positivity than Chrissy Metz, who stars on This Is Us. Her book has essays on everything from dating to intentional goal pursing and urges readers to see the best in themselves.

5. Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov

If you want something a little more brooding and complex, read Lolita. A majority of the novel takes place during the summer and you'll be able to relate to the long sticky days as Humbert and Lolita drive cross-country on their incredibly twisted journey.
