Top 10: Must-read classics

Updated: Oct 2, 2019

School is up and running again and if you're an English major like me, you will most likely have to read some timeless novels that for some reason or another have stayed relevant. Here are some that I think are actually worth the read.

1. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

You can't call yourself a book lover until you read this one, sorry.

2. The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas

A witty, layered, action-packed adventure.

3. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

A strong female protagonist and a relationship with a surly silver fox? I'm in!

4. Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov

Most people know about it but have no clue what it's actually about. It's horrible, read it.

5. 1984 by George Orwell

Read this now before is becomes our reality.

6. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Grown ups acting like high schoolers as they try to enjoy the ambiguous, fleeting concept of being "happy."

7. Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery

Always a favorite. Anne is such a lovable and vibrant character, well-worth taking the time to read about.

8. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy

If you're ambitious and have a thing for Russia, you better get cracking on this hefty novel.

9. Animal Farm by George Orwell

I'm a sucker for George Orwell. This one is short so it's great for the busy college student.

10. The Iliad by Homer

This is Greek Game of Thrones people. Just had to read it for class and I actually liked it, so that's saying something.

Happy reading and good luck studying!
