All the movies I watched during quarantine
During the six or so weeks that all of us were officially quarantined, I watched a lot of movies to pass the time. I normally prefer watching a TV show to a film, BUT, I'm trying to be a more educated on cinema so I made the goal to watch a new movie every day for about two weeks. While I no longer have a strict guideline, I've still continued to watch new films.
Here, I rank all the movies that I watched during quarantine.
The Best
Sophie's Choice (1982)
Meryl Streep plays the enchanting Sophie, a complicated Auschwitz survivor.
This is one of the best movies I've ever seen, hands down. I completely understand why Meryl Streep won Best Actress.
The Social Network (2010)
On Harvard's campus, Mark Zuckerberg develops what will one day be a billion-dollar idea.
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie! I love Aaron Sorkin's screenwriting style and enjoyed getting a glimpse into Facebook's origin. The witty dialogue and interesting subject matter made this a movie I would watch again.
Molly's Game (2017)
A former Olympic qualifier runs a high-stakes poker game for the elite.
I really enjoyed this movie! I love Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba, and this is also another Aaron Sorkin screenplay.
2012 (2009)
The end of the world causes natural disasters across the globe that threaten humanity as we know it.
I couldn't get through quarantine without watching a disaster movie and it did hit differently.
BlacKkKlansman (2018)
Spike Lee explores the life of a Black cop going undercover in the KKK.
This movie made me uncomfortable, which is exactly the point.
The story of an endearing man aging in reverse.
I really liked this! Brad Pitt is super hot. But also, I thought the plot was really interesting and I'd watch it again.
Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011)
Overlapping lives explore the ins and outs of love.
This is a movie I could watch again and again. It's got great actors and Dan Fogelman's classic storytelling style.
The In-Between
The Meg (2018)
Tough marine biologists try to take down an aquatic, prehistoric monster.
This was Jaws for a new generation. I enjoyed it and it showed me just how hot Jason Statham is.
Thelma and Louise (1991)
Two friends embark on a road trip that takes some twisted turns.
I went into this movie cold and was very surprised at what the plot ended up being. But Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis are amazing actors and I really did enjoy the film overall!
Armageddon (1998)
A hardcore oil driller has to take on a massive meteor with his crew in order to save the planet.
This movie is pretty hyped up, so I think my expectations were a little too high. The ending was really good though!
Where'd You Go Bernadette (2019)
An agoraphobic architect goes missing before a family trip to Antarctica.
This movie was quirky and had a unique plot. That being said, I probably would never watch it again.
Sister Act (1992)
A singer hides out in witness protection at a convent.
A classic and I love any movie that has some singing.
Abduction (2011)
Taylor Lautner plays a kid who finds out that his parents aren't exactly who they say they are.
Just okay. Good enough, but I wouldn't watch it again.
Good Boys (2019)
Three 12-year-old bffs get into lots of inappropriate trouble in this comedy adventure.
This is a raunchy comedy, so if you're into that, then you would probably enjoy this too.
The Roommate (2011)
A college freshman deals with a roommate who is just not normal.
I love this movie because it's nostalgic to me. But overall, it's not a very scary or something you need to watch twice.
The Karate Kid (2010)
Jaden Smith stars in this updated classic.
I was forced to watch this movie, so I wasn't that into it. But overall it was fine.
Coffee and Kareem (2020)
Officer Coffee and his girlfriend's son get involved with some criminals in the night of their lives.
This is another raunchy-type comedy. I laughed a few times, but it was nothing to write home about.
The Worst
Ma (2019)
High school kids love hanging out with Ma because she lets them party in her basement. But things soon take a dark turn.
I wanted to like this movie because it stars Octavia Spencer. But there were some plot holes that kind of ruined it for me so yeah.
La La Land (2016)
Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone dance across the screen in this tribute to Hollywood.
Blech. I have ZERO idea why people like this movie. Emma Stone is a great actress, but she cannot sing. The ending is unsatisfying and also not explained well whatsoever. This movies sucks and I'm not sorry I said that.
Monte Carlo (2011)
Three friends get a glitzy European vacation after a case of mistaken identity.
Listen, I knew this movie was going to be corny. But I could not even finish it. The acting was sub par, the plot was non-existent, and the "jokes" all fell flat. Do NOT watch.
Dangerous Lies (2020)
A young couple receives a strange inheritance.
This was a predictably sucky Netflix movie with so many plot holes that they might as well have never filmed it.
The Iron Lady (2011)
Meryl Streep plays the iconic Margaret Thatcher in this biopic.
I feel bad to rank this movie so low, but I just didn't enjoy it. Maybe it's because I don't understand British politics, but I was lost and bored pretty much the whole way through.
Every Day (2018)
A mysterious spirit reincarnates in a new body every day.
I mostly watched this movie because I was curious how they were going to make it make sense. They never quite did.
Risky Business (1983)
A "good" kid gets into lots of trouble when he's left home alone.
This is a common theme for me where I end up completely unimpressed by an 80s movie.
Have you been watching any movies lately?
