Does anyone read magazines?

Magazines are like the happy medium between TV shows and books. Shorter than a novel and uniquely entertaining like an episode, everyone can find one that suits their interests.

I used to LOVE magazines. I obsessively begged my mom to buy the latests issues of Seventeen from the supermarket checkout line and giggled with my high school friends over raunchy articles in Cosmopolitan. Since then, I've moved on from the glossy, friendly pages of Seventeen to more serious subject matter. Here are five magazines I enjoy along with their pros and why you might enjoy them too.

The New Yorker

News and Lifestyle

The New Yorker features long-form articles about current societal issues as well as everything you need to know about the NYC culture scene. Plays, art shows, ballets and everything in between.

Pros: There is a variety of content from entertainment reviews, news pieces, and creative writing. Plus, you get a free tote bag when you subscribe!

Read if: You enjoy longer articles that go in-depth with their subjects and/or are obsessed with New York City.

Drift

Lifestyle

Coffee lovers, this is the magazine for you. Drift covers everything you could possibly need to know about coffee culture around the world.

Pros: It covers a different city each issue backdropped with stunning photos and a really strong black and white, minimal aesthetic. There's also no ads!

Read if: You love drinking coffee, love talking about coffee, and want to gain a niche perspective on popular travel destinations. Magazines on magazines: Stack's "Interview with Editor-In-Chief Adam Goldberg"

Kinfolk

Lifestyle and Home

Kinfolk is a quarterly magazine that covers slow living, arts, culture, and fashion.

Pros: Extremely aesthetically pleasing, articles about topics and people you might not find anywhere else, beautiful covers you can display on your coffee table like art.

Read if: You enjoy spending time on Instagram and Pinterest and/or are interested in the intersectionality of people, clothes, and sustainability.

Magazines on magazines: Vanity Fair's "How Kinfolk Defined the Millennial Aesthetic"

Time

News

Time covers weekly national news with an editorial emphasis. They are also known for their Person of the Year profile that features someone who "for better or for worse... has done the most to influence the events of the year."

Pros: A variety of content ranging from hard news to sports, tech, and entertainment.

Read if: You appreciate editorial-style thought pieces and like to stay current on national and global issues.

Magazines on magazines: The National Review's "Time Stands By Misleading Cover Photo"

Magnolia Journal

Home and Lifestyle

Published by lifestyle tycoon Joanna Gaines, Magnolia Journal delivers quarterly recipes and home decor in one picture perfect package.

Pros: Consistent meal inspiration with fresh, seasonal recipes, yummy food photos, and quick to read through because it is mostly photos.

Read if: You enjoy cooking, Fixer Upper, and that earthy, airy decor vibe.

Magazines on magazines: Media Post's "Magnolia Journal records audience of 5.5 million"
