Elements of a quality reading nook

As we all know, I love reading. But I also need the perfect location to really enjoy it. Here are the things I think any quality reading nook requires.

A comfortable perch. I don't know anyone who reads standing up so the first thing to find is a comfy place to get settled into. A reclining seat back and a foot rest are ideal.

Soft blankets. Now that you've found your chair, cuddle up into a fuzzy blanket to really emphasize that snuggly vibe.

Killer lighting. It's essential to find the balance between soft lighting and visibility. You can never go wrong with a lamp and a warm, Tungsten bulb situated right next to your comfy chair.

A warm drink. What solidifies that cozy reading experience is a cute mug full of something delicious. I love a good milk chai or honey-sweetened chamomile.

Music. Hit shuffle on that "low-fi beats" playlist and give your reading nook some mellow background tunes.

Views. A Room With a View anyone? Window or balcony, it will all suffice. You just need something you can look off at whimsically.

A notebook and pen. You might get inspired while reading and staring out the window.

Nom noms. As someone who is always hungry, I never keep snacks too far out of arm's reach.

Candles. They smell great and the soft, flickering light of a flame makes everything ten times more intimate.

Some green. No matter what you do in there, every room in your house should have a plant in it. Come on, they're so cute.

I try and cultivate this environment for myself at least once a week where I just unplug from the rest of the world and let myself get absorbed into a story. I highly, highly recommend.
