Reading Soundtracks

I love listening to music while I read. A good song can set the ideal cozy mood for snuggling up with a novel. I usually enjoy soft, low-key music because I read before bed and those types of songs help me drift off to sleep. Here are the albums and artists I like listening to while I read based on my mood.

When I'm happy: The British band Flyte, finds the balance between upbeat indie rock and mellow introspection. I think their best work is on YouTube, but I also enjoy their new EP, White Roses.

When I'm feeling moody: Lana del Rey, hands down, especially her newest album. It's easy to get lost in her dreamy voice and I'm always left with a sleepy, melancholy feeling that, for some reason, I enjoy.

When it's cold outside: For Emma, Forever Ago by Bon Iver. His music makes me want to drink hot tea, wrapped up in blankets, and never leave my house.

When I want to chill: The Lumineers' self-titled first album has the perfect acoustic sound for a relaxing, easygoing night.

When it's warm outside: Sufjan Stevens' Carrie and Lowell. This is one of the most basic hipster albums ever, but Death With Dignity (the opening song) gets me every time. It's perfect for a summer day reading in the park.

An honorable mention goes to Beach House, who I like listening to while I journal, because they're techno/pipe organ/sleepy music really gets me in my feels.
