Twice as nice
Every time I read a book, I get something new from it. A funny line I didn't notice the first time around or a crazy plot twist I'd forgotten. Most often it brings back warm, nostalgic feelings, reminding me of the first time I enjoyed the story. Kind of like rewatching a favorite movie or TV show.
Here are some books that were so good I just had to read them twice.
The Book: Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers
Why I Read it Twice: I've actually read this book four times and each time I cry without fail. It's such a sad, gripping, yet uplifting story! It's a love story on the surface but an allegorical telling of humanity's relationship with Christ at its core. As I get older, I understand the depth of the message in a new, more mature way each time.
The Book: Maus by Art Spiegelman
Why I Read it Twice: First of all, this book is a graphic novel, so it doesn't take very long to read. Secondly, the story allowed me to learn about a consequence to World War II that I'd never considered. What is it like to be raised by Holocaust survivors? The narrative is raw, clever, and heartbreaking. It will 100% make you feel.
The Book: The Clique by Lisi Harrison
Why I Read it Twice: I've read this book more times than I can even count. It was my favorite book growing up and the first novel in my favorite young adult series. Witty, snarky, and quick, I'm reminded every time that this book is definitely a 10/10!
The Book: Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson
Why I Read it Twice: I read it in 4th grade, then my teacher read it to the class in 4th grade, then I read it again as an adult. This story is action packed, imaginative, and AMAZING. The perfect story for those who like to wonder.
The Book: A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khalid Hosseini
Why I Read it Twice: Hosseini writes the most beautiful stories about his home country, Afghanistan. The two main characters, Laila and Miriam, are each courageous and inspiring in the ways that they endure trials throughout the story. You won't be able to turn the pages fast enough.
